PH records 4K new Covid cases, toll up to 93K

FROM a record high in recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Thursday, the Department of Health (DoH) reported another high on Friday — 4,063 new infections.

The DoH said the National Capital Region (NCR) or Metro Manila still has the highest number of cases with 2,267.
Cebu was second with 654 new cases as Laguna, Cavite and Rizal round up the top five provinces with the most number of infections.

Of the new cases, 1,705 are fresh while 2,358 are part of the ongoing validation of backlogs from 74 out of 91 Covid-19 reference laboratories.

The 4,063 infections recorded on Friday raises the total to 93,354, of which 26,153 are active.

Ten percent of the total active cases are currently asymptomatic, while 87.8 percent are considered mild, 1.3 percent severe, and 0.9 percent critically-ill.

The DoH said there were 165 new recoveries, a huge drop from the 38,075 on Thursday. The latest recoveries raise the total to 65,178.

Forty more people died from the disease, increasing the toll to 2,023. Of the number, 27 died in July, 7 in April, and 2 each from March, May, and June.

NCR has the highest number of deaths with 13 followed by Central Visayas with 12.

The country remains second in Southeast Asia with the highest number of infections, according to the World Health Organization. Indonesia remains on top with 106,336 cases.

At least 17.3 million people are infected worldwide, including 673,568 deaths.
