Robredo, a lawyer, said they discussed the relations between Philippines and Canada, as well as the response of both countries to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are hopeful that this would lead to further partnerships around shared advocacies of our two countries,” she said in a Facebook post, sharing photos of their Tuesday meeting.

The vice president met MacArthur at the Quezon City Reception House with the presence of her chief of staff Philip Dy, and Ryan Webb, a political officer from the Canadian embassy.

No other details were given by the Office of the Vice President (OVP) about the meeting of the two officials.

The photos showed Robredo and MacArthur exchanging gifts.

MacArthur was among the five newly-appointed ambassadors in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Philippines recognizes Canada as an “old friend” and important development partner in trade and investments, education, maritime security, health services, and agriculture.

Canada has provided P115 million worth of assistance to the Philippines to help in its fight against COVID-19. It has also donated N95 masks, diagnostic equipment, and testing kits.

MacArthur said Canada strongly supports additional COVID-19 package of loans and technical assistance being made available to the Philippines.
