Mindanao, eastern section Visayas to experience rain showers next 24hrs

The eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao will experience scattered rain showers due to the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) east of Luzon.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) monitored the LPA at 925 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte on Thursday morning. It is also seen to develop into a tropical depression within the next few days.

PAGASA said the LPA’s trough may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Biliran, Leyte, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental within 24 hours.

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will also bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan group of islands.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with some isolated afternoon or evening rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The public, especially those in high-risk areas, should remain alert for possible flooding or landslides in the event of severe thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned that a gale warning is still in effect over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon because of “strong to gale force winds associated with the southwest monsoon enhanced by typhoon ‘Bavi.'”

Small fishing vessels and other boats are still prevented from venturing out over the coasts of Batanes, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte due to rough to very rough sea conditions.
