PGH spokesman Jonas del Rosario told DZMM radio that there has been a resurgence of patients being admitted at the hospital for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Del Rosario said the number of admissions went from 172 high in April to 75-85 by May. However, in the first two weeks of June, the number of patients went back to more than 170.

“Eto pong mga huling araw, at least isang linggo, very consistent po na tumataas ulit iyong bilang, at umabot po iyong huli ng 171, two days ago (The past days, in a span of one week at least, the number of admissions was consistently rising, it went up to 171 two days ago),” del Rosario said.

Del Rosario said the increase can be attributed to the implementation of a general community quarantine in Metro Manila last June 1.

“In the last seven days, consistent na tumataas, maaring timely rin po nung inimpose nila yung GCQ kasi nag GQC tayo June 1 eh (In the last seven days, there has been a consistent increase, and this happened at the time when the GCQ was imposed since on 1),” he said.

He added that they already expected the increase in the number of patients since testing has been intensified, and the same pattern happened in other countries where lockdown measures were eased.

Del Rosario also assured that the PGH is still capable of accepting patients.

Most of the patients in PGH’s COVID ward are only mild to moderate cases, while only 15 percent are severely or critically ill, according to del Rosario.
