LTO suspends issuance of student permits from July 1 to August 3

By Noreen Jazul

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday said it will temporarily suspend the issuance of student permits from July 1 to August 3.

“Effective July 1, sususpendihin muna namin ang pag issue ng student permit (Effective July 1, we will be suspending the issuance of student permits),” LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante told DZMM radio.

By August 3, Galvante said student permit applicants will be required to undergo a 15-hour “theoretical lecture.”

Galvante said the additional requirement was supposed to be implemented back in April but was delayed until August.

In the lecture, Galvante said applicants will learn about traffic rules and regulations.

“Maraming nakakakuha ng lisensya na di nila naiintindihan o di nila alam yung rules and regulations on traffic, on driving. (Many of those who have license don’t undestand or are unaware of the rules and regulations on traffic, on driving),” Galvante said.

Meanwhile, the LTO official said vehicle registrations that expired during the ECQ period will be given a “60-day extension upon the lifting of ECQ” in their areas to renew.
