Scattered rains, cloudy skies in PH today

By Ellalyn de Vera-Ruiz

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday warned of possible flooding or landslides over some parts of Visayas, and Mindanao due to the advancing clouds of a low pressure area (LPA) and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).

Around 8 a.m. Sunday, the LPA was estimated at 280 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Davao City or 220 km east-southeast of Hinatuan, Davao del Sur and remains embedded in the ITCZ.

PAGASA warned of scattered light to moderate rains with occasional heavy rains due to the combined effects of the trough or extension of the LPA and ITCZ that may affect Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, and the whole Visayas and Mindanao.

Weather specialist Sheilla Reyes said rains may prevail across most of Visayas and Mindanao until Tuesday, while improving weather conditions may be felt by Wednesday. The LPA still has a minimal chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, she added.

A general flood advisory was issued by PAGASA on Sunday morning as Eastern Visayas and Davao Region may be affected by floods.

“People living near the mountain slopes and in the low-lying areas of the river systems and the local disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are still advised to take necessary precautionary measures,” PAGASA said
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience warm and humid weather conditions apart from isolated rain showers in the afternoon or evening due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
The weather bureau has not issued a gale warning on Sunday thus fisherfolk and seafarers are safe to sail.
However, they should remain alert due to moderate to rough seas over eastern Visayas and eastern Mindanao.

Slight to moderate seas will prevail over the rest of the country.
