VP Robredo warns public against raffle scam using her name

By Raymund Antonio

Vice President Leni Robredo issued a fresh warning about another text scam that has been circulating to trick the public amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The scam lulls people into a false sense of hope that they won in raffle draw supposedly from Robredo’s “Ahon sa Kabuhayan” program.

Robredo said the public should not believe the text message because her office does not have any raffle program.

”Pinapaalalahan po natin ang lahat na mag-ingat sa mga mapagsamantala at huwag maniwala sa mga scam na tulad nito,” she said in a Facebook post.

(We are reminding everyone to beware of those who take advantage and don’t believe scams like this.)

The vice president then advised the public to check her ongoing programs through her official Facebook page.

The fraudulent scheme claimed the recipient won the third prize worth P500,000 from the program.

“For details call me now or text your name, age, and address. I’m Sec Barry Gutierrez,” the text message read.

Gutierrez is Robredo’s spokesperson and legal adviser, but he’s not a secretary at the Office of the Vice President.

Scammers have been using Robredo’s name and her office to make people believe that they won a huge amount of money.

Apart from this, she has been a subject of false reports and misinformation on social

media despite the health crisis the country is facing.
