K-water donates relief goods and PPEs to families around angat dam

In addition to South Korea’s countless assistance to the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic, Korea Water Resources Corporation provided $8,100 more worth of relief goods to the families residing around Angat Dam – a major national facility operated by Angat Hydropower Corporation (AHC) in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

AHC is a joint venture between K-water and SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. Since 2014, the two companies have been handling the management and operations of Angat Dam, a national facility responsible for 97 percent of the water supply in Metro Manila.

Apart from the relief packages for the families, K-water also provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the community health center to help protect the health emergency responders and frontliners from the disease.

The emergency assistance will support the residents in the area, composed mostly of Indigenous People (IP), according to local barangay and community leaders, to cope with the difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

K-water President, Mr. Park Jae Hyeon, said, “We, together with our partner SMC Global Power Holdings Corp., promise to provide continuous and uninterrupted operations of Angat Dam since most parts of Metro Manila and Luzon rely on it for water supply and electricity. We are also providing emergency relief goods to share the pain with residents of the dam area.”

Filipinos in the country have been barred from going to work and were limited to going out just to buy basic necessities these days following the Enhanced Community Quarantine imposed by the national government in Luzon last March 16, 2020  to counter the spread of the fatal coronavirus.

Mr. Park added, “We hope that the local residents stay safely in their homes, overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, and return to normal life soon.”

In response to K-water’s decisive humanitarian action, AHC President Mr. Kim Bong Jae remarked, “We appreciate the support and responsible interest of global water company K-water, truly a leading global water company.” He proceeded with a promise that AHC will continue to provide support for the responsible operations of the Angat Dam facilities and the healthy life of the residents.
